Trust is an important aspect of any relationship. Be it a platonic relationship or a serious live in relationship, you need to have some kind of trust and understanding to make it work. Learning that your partner has a STD or a sexually transmitted disease is akin to betrayal or cheating. Not only does the emotional scar take a long time to heal but some STD’s can leave you physically scarred for life leaving you unable to have kids for life. Whether you are having casual sex or having sex with your partner you need to know if you and your partner are free from any sexually transmitted diseases. There is no easy way to find out, but here are some ways to make sure your partner is free from STD.

1. Just ask your partner

It could be embarrassing and you may feel like it is the most difficult thing to do, but it is always good to be safe than sorry. If it’s the first time, ask him directly and let him know that you care for both your health and there is no moral judging involved with the question. If you have been together a long time and you suspect something, you should definitely sit for a talk and ask him directly if he has been fooling around and if you should e worried about contracting something from him.

2. Go for regular screenings

Screening for STD’s is common place and if you do not have insurance or you do not want to claim insurance you do not have to worry. The tests are pretty cheap and it is always advisable to go get screened. It should not be seen as an issue of trust but just a precaution that you are taking for your future benefit.

3. Encourage him to be honest

Do not stand on a pedestal and look down on your partner when they talk about their past sexual encounters. This will discourage them from being open and honest about their sexual history and also STD’s. Be reasonable when talking about these things and encourage your partner to be honest with you.
