All of us want to look good, and most of us want to burn the extra calories in our body and look slim. In order to attain that, we do so many things. Controlling our diet, exercise, and even medication. Yet, after a reasonable period of time, we notice that none of those measures are helping and we are still fat. What could be the reason? Well, here are 5 reasons why you are probably not losing weight.

1. Your exercise routine isn’t right

Many people think that spending a lot of time on the treadmill everyday will help you reduce your weight. Reality of the matter is quite different. Doing long sessions of cardio exercises regularly can actually harm you. Exercising is basically a process of providing stress to the body, which results in the release of the cortisol hormone. This is definitely healthy for a short time, but prolonged increase in the level of cortisol eventually leads to insulin resistance, decrease in bone density and weight gain.

2. Your diet mainly comprises fruit

Most often, people who are on a diet take in a lot of fruits. But the sugar (carbohydrate) in fruits gets broken down into glucose and mixes with your bloodstream. This causes the pancreas to release insulin, which stores the excess glucose as fat. Hence, if you are on a fruit diet, avoid taking ones that have carbohydrate content and take more of antioxidants, such as berries.

3. You’re taking on too much stress

Be it emotional stress, physical stress, relationship stress, or any other type of stress, the body simply sees it as stress and enters into a defensive state causing alteration in hormone levels. This also causes the body to produce more cortisol, which shows up as excess fat in your belly.

4. Your bad and good habits

You’re trying to trim down the excess fat in your body, and yet you’re all about beer. You want to lose weight and yet you are not exercising regularly. Make a list of all the bad habits you have and the good habits you need to inculcate, and make them public to your friends and family. Tell them to force you to build those habits and it will definitely produce positive results.

5. You are not getting proper sleep

Insomnia or prolonged period of sleep deprivation causes the release of cortisol. Sleeping may sound like a lazy man’s job, but studies have found that a person burns down maximum calories when he is in deep sleep. It is very important to get at least seven hours of sleep every night.
