6 Ways to Prevent Identity Theft

4. Protect your mail

Take out your mail every day and if you cannot take out your mail every day, make arrangements with the post office or your neighbour to either hold your mail for you or get it on your behalf. A mailbox full of credit card statements and other stuff would be very tempting for a thief.

5. Be careful who and where you share your details with

When you are asked for your details online, make sure it is from a proper source. Do not give out your details without verifying the source of the request. Also do not share your passwords or other sensitive information through chats or text messages.

6. Be careful while withdrawing cash

Do not try to withdraw cash when it is dark and lonely and always look behind your back when you are taking out money. People behind you can see you pin number, so make sure you hide it well before you punch it in.

Identity theft is a serious problem. Not only will you lose your credit ratings, but you can also end up in jail for a fraud that someone else committed in your name and sometimes it is very difficult to prove that it was not you. Instead of suffering after getting your identity stolen, take precautions to safeguard your private and sensitive details. Exercise caution when you are having financial transactions online.
