Becoming a father can be nerve racking and intimidating for anyone. A father can feel left out with all the attention on the mother and the baby and also runs the risk of missing out on the early bonding with the kid. It is important for a father to be around in the early times- the birth and the breastfeeding so he can also feel part of the whole experience. A father has equal responsibility over his child. And the responsibility should begin right from the operating table when the child is being delivered irrespective of the court rulings which say that a father should not be present at the operating table. Many women would not like their partners to be present as they can be shy or squeamish and would want some privacy, but it also helps a lot of women to have their husbands or partners stay with them. Here are some reasons as to why a father should be present during delivery of his child.

1. It gives the woman a sense of security

Giving birth can be very scary and intimidating especially if the labor is a long drawn out process. In such cases the presence of the husband will be a lot more comforting and also give the woman a sense of security as a hospital in spite of all the comforts will still be an alien and a strange place for her. Having the father of her child with her will make her feel safe and comfortable during these painful moments.

2. They should be around as they help the woman produce oxytocin

Oxytocin helps during labor and results in quick birth of the infant. And it is known that both the man and the woman release oxytocin during love making. It works the same during the childbirth and the presence of the husband or the father would help the woman produce oxytocin and help the birth be faster.

3. It helps the father bond with the infant as well as the mother in quite unexpected ways

Seeing first-hand the actual trouble and pain a woman has to endure while giving birth to a baby will only bring the husband closer to his wife. Watching the magical moment will also bring him closer to the infant and help him bond better with both of them. He will also feel a part of the family right from the beginning.
