When you train with barbells or any other gym workout machine, mostly you are required to do a balancing act, that is to say, you must pull or push with both limbs in order to get maximum benefits of the workout. But in case of dumbbells, such is not the case. When training with dumbbells, you have to control two independent implements and not worry about balancing with both hands simultaneously. This provides a highly beneficial complex motor activity while exercising with dumbbells.

While exercising, you can go all out and very well go for explosive training when you are using dumbbells. Therefore, dumbbells are most apt for athletic training because other gym machines or barbells do not provide this benefit – there is only as much you could do with them.
