Tips to Tackle Workplace Bullying

Being the target of an errant boss or a jealous co-worker can be a harrowing experience and that is what workplace bullying is all about. So how can you give these psychological manipulators a taste of their own medicine? Read on to find out:

1. Talk to the bully

This can be the toughest as bullies cannot have a normal conversation with their targets. Sometimes the solution lies in talking things out. If you see that a particular manager’s or an employee’s negative attitude towards you is getting out of hand, you need to discuss it with the concerned person.

2. Be assertive yet polite

While getting your point across, make sure you don’t sound rude. This is because the bully is likely to blow things out of proportion. Tomorrow he may turn the tables on you.

3. Speak to the authorities

If confrontation doesn’t get you the results, then it is best to speak to the high level management. This is an intelligent move considering that you may salvage many others who may sooner or later be under the supervision of the same bullying manager.

4. Lose the battle at times

Don’t turn submissive. But in situations that seem too immature for a person like you to deal with, you can simply give the bully what he wants. In this way, you are saving your precious time instead of arguing or defending yourself for a mundane issue that only bullies can bring up. Sometimes, this could be the best way to get rid of the bully.
