At times, we cut down on certain things thinking that they might harm our being. In this list come all kinds of fats. For a long time, saturated fats were considered to top the list as a no-no for all. With the progress of science and technology, it has been known that saturated fat is as essential as other nutrients to keep the body healthy and fit. Intake of saturated fat is a must. Here are some reasons why.

1. It strengthens our immunity

In our blood are white blood cells that fight against the germs that disease our body. Lack of saturated fat weakens their senses of recognizing the enemy cell. This overall weakens our immunity to fight back even basic ailments like cold and cough. The saturated fat available in butter and cooking oil help in keeping the white blood cells healthy and working. It is not advisable to stop taking such products suddenly as with age we need our immune system to be stronger. It is best to take a doctor’s advice before discontinuing eating butter or oil.

2. It helps the brain work well

Our brain is mainly made up of saturated fat. A brain that does not get enough saturated fat becomes dull. For people who are on a diet, it is important to discuss your diet with a dietician as completely stopping the intake of products containing saturated fat will harm your brain and so your entire body.

3. It helps in keeping our bones strong

Right from the beginning, a fetus needs to get good amount of calcium to form its limbs and other bones of the body. But it is important to note that for the calcium to become a limb or a bone, saturated fat is essential. Without saturated fat obtained from dairy products, it is not possible for calcium to get into the bones and make them strong. As you grow, your bones need more calcium and to get this calcium into your bones, you need saturated fat.
