Quitting drinking is never an easy decision or task. It takes significant amount of will power and efforts. Also since one has been drinking for long, the body and the mind exhibit certain withdrawal symptoms whenever an addict quits alcohol. Want to know what happens when you quit drinking? Read on further to find out.

1. Confusion, hallucinations and anxiety

One of the most prominent withdrawal symptoms of alcohol addiction is confusion. One often experiences confusions in daily life. These confusions arise because the mind craves for alcohol but the person who has quit is trying to concentrate his/her mind on other things in life which leads to confusion. Hallucinations and anxiety emerge from this confusion and make the person feel deprived all the time.

2. Insomnia and nausea

The other two common withdrawal symptoms are insomnia and nausea. People who have been alcohol addicts for long often suffer from insomnia for at least a month or two whenever they stop drinking alcohol all of a sudden. Their mind and body crave for alcohol and this craving, when not fulfilled, creates a void inside and generates the feeling of nausea.

3. Convulsions and blackouts

Shaky feeling in the hands and convulsions are often experienced by those who had been strongly addicted to alcohol. These convulsions reflect the fact that the body has yet not gotten used to not being fed alcohol. Blackouts also occur due to confusion in the mind coupled with nausea and anxiety. As the time passes and one persists, the convulsions reduce and the shaky feeling goes away. Blackouts too become a rare phenomenon.
