10 Ways to Increase Your Self Esteem

6. Indulge in a hobby

There is always that one hobby we all want to follow or pursue since childhood, but are never able to. It could be anything – swimming, learning guitar, joining dance classes, cooking, yoga, photography, or even bird watching for that matter. Find time to indulge in that hobby, and learn something new. That’s a great way to boost your self-esteem. Plus, it becomes a great conversation starter when people notice it on your profiles on social media websites, or when they ask you about what you did over the weekend. They take more interest in you as a person.

7. Draw your boundaries

There’s no need to always do everything as per people around you. Always remember, you can’t keep everyone happy. So even if you try going out of the way for one person, somebody else may not like it. Plus, you shouldn’t be exhausting yourself to lead a life that is dominated by others around you. Learn to say no, because you can’t possibly please just about everyone you meet. Make your own boundaries, and stick to them. Be a person who has his own judgment, decisions and choices in life.

8. Don’t be influenced

You should always be your own person. Don’t try to imitate someone else, or be influenced by someone. Again, trust your instincts and do things that make you feel good about yourself. Don’t do things by getting under any kind of pressure from people around you. This is important to remember for your personal, as well as your professional life.

9. Keep negative thoughts away

Whenever your mind starts to develop any negative thoughts, consciously divert your attention to something else. Listen to good music, watch a TV show, go party with friends, spend time with family members, or do anything that comforts you and keeps you happy and calm. Just do not let any negative thoughts come up; because once they start brewing, they only lead to unending self-criticism, which is bad for you and your mental peace.

10. Appreciate yourself for who you are

You must always appreciate yourself for whoever you are, with whatever limitations you have. Nobody in this world is perfect, and people with disabilities or deformities face a lot of pressure, because of which they have really low self-esteem. However, what keeps them going is one thought at the back of their heads – they are good at some things that even the best of people can’t do.

Life has to go on, irrespective of how we all are as people. But we must remember that even with our own little problems, we all stand out in one way or the other. We all are blessed with gifts and talents, and we must maximize on their potential to increase our self-esteem. So stay positive, and be confident!
